The Tradition of
Apple Cultivation in Agia
Apple cultivation in Agia began around 1950 with the well-known “firikia,” the area’s first local variety. Soon after, Delicia and Renet apples followed, and from the 1980s, producers shifted to modern and high-yield varieties of the time, such as Imperial, Royal, Double Red, Wellspur, Red Chief, Starkimson, as well as Golden, Jona Golden, Smoothy, and Granny Smith.
Today, the main apple varieties cultivated by the KISSAVOS Cooperative are:
Red varieties: Starkrimson, Red Chief, Jesey Mac (summer)
Yellow varieties: Golden Delicious
Green varieties: Granny Smith, which is increasingly in demand
Annual production exceeds 3,500,000 kg (3,500 tons) across 12 different varieties, offering a rich range of colors, aromas, and flavors.
