Cultivation
& Harvesting
Chestnut trees thrive at elevations above 250 meters, with each tree producing 30–50 kg of fruit. They bloom in spring, and the chestnuts mature from September to November. Chestnut groves extend throughout Kissavos and Mavrovouni, and production has shown a steady increase thanks to the renewal of orchards and modern cultivation management.
Intensified production, organic control of chestnut blight and codling moth using pheromone traps, along with the experience and dedication of the farmers, have increased yields without compromising fruit quality.
